Is This Thing On?

Man, it's been a really long time since I updated here and a lot has changed (for the better). I'm actually working on a web comic and about to sign a contract to do another. School is nearing the end. I have this quarter, the summer, and the fall left and I'll have a degree.

Oh, and the new baby will be here any day now (allegedly).

More to come, but I just wanted to dust off the ol' blog for now.

I'll leave you with a page I recently inked.

INFO 1001

Alright, no new artwork this time but I have scanned in new pages and posted them on Deviantart. I don't know why but I've been having problems with my old old old school photo-editing program. I don't know if it's just not Windows 7 compatible or what, but it crashes more often than it did on my old computer. I guess it's time for a new program, but now I have to figure out whether I want to spend hundreds of dollars (that I don't have right now) on a program that I'll have to re-learn. Still, since I've got a new scanner and newfound motivation to post artwork, it may be worth the investment. Decisions, decisions...

Western Samples

Okay, here's some samples from a western comic book I was trying out for but ended up losing contact with the guy. I really loved the story but life goes on. It was actually a web comic so each page was divided in half so the top and bottom halves are actually intended to be two seperate pages. For the last page, though, I think I'm just gonna make one full-size comic book page. We'll see.

Crappy Scan of a Crappy Page: Part Two

Alright, I'm back and older than ever! I finally got an 11x17 scanner so now it's time to post on this bad boy...not that anyone's watching:)

This is the full view of the crappy sample page I put together. I would've done alot of things differently but I'm proud of this one because it was the first page I actually finished (that I can recall). It gave me confidence that I could do it again and I have a few times since. And more to come.

Crappy Scan

Okay, this is a crappy scan of the top half of the first comic book page I've ever sort of completed.

Mojo-vated

Okay, so this amazing thing has been happening lately. I can't really explain it but for about a week I've been able to consistently produce alright artwork. I'm still working on my first comic book page but it's mostly done. Plus, I'm confident that I can do another; I don't think this is a fad. So, lo and behold...

The Resurrection

The Drawing American is BACK!! Before you get the wrong idea and think I'm just some guy speaking in the third person, let me assure you that is not the case. The "Drawing American" is the pen name of my pencil. Actually, it's the Alvin "Tech" DA lead holder but years ago I decided that DA stood for "Drawing American" (obviously). Anyway, for years I used this pencil to do the foundation work for my drawings until it became unserviceable. By "unserviceable", I mean the spring mechanism just wore out, which led to a creative drought for me since I couldn't find a suitable replacement.

A few months and a cross-country move go by and I end up in Lincoln, NE which happens to carry the exact same pencil. Wow. So despite losing the majority of the useful art supplies I had, my main weapon was back in my hands. But (thank God), my wife found said-name art tools this past weekend and the mojo is back!

So, despite having finally winterized our motorcycles and bidding them farewell until the spring, I am more excited about drawing than I have been in a while.

Much more to come.
